Alessandro Sanino

Hello, I'm Alessandro Sanino

Your cloud is costing you more than it should. I fix that.

I help scale-ups cut cloud costs by up to 90% — with architectures that hold up under growth instead of billing you for it.

Recent work: a 14-domain frontend cut from ~$1,000 to ~$10/month, and platforms handling 50M+ requests a day. I've been on your side of the table — I know what building under pressure with no room for error means.

On-premise to AWS migration - B2B SaaS (Appload)

The problem: Legacy on-premise infrastructure with high operating costs, no automation, and heavy manual deployments.

What I did: Migrated to AWS (EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, ElastiCache, SES), built automated delivery with Terraform, Pulumi and GitHub Actions, and established security best practices.

The result: 60% operational cost reduction, fully automated deployments in under 2 minutes, and ISO 27001 certification achieved.

Serverless cloud migration - 14 iGaming domains - Betstarters (iGaming scale-up)
Case Study

Serverless cloud migration - 14 iGaming domains - Betstarters (iGaming scale-up)

The problem: 14 web domains running as Docker containers on Azure Web Services, intentionally over-provisioned to survive unpredictable iGaming traffic peaks, driving a ~$1,000/month bill for idle capacity.

What I did: Re-architected the platform from containers to a serverless setup on Cloudflare Workers, rewrote the frontend build for workerd compatibility, resolved SSR edge cases, and kept only the 2 highest-traffic domains on paid plans while the rest ran on the free tier.

The result: Cloud bill cut from ~$1,000/month to ~$10/month (over 90% reduction), infinite auto-scaling for traffic spikes, and isolated Production/Staging/Development preview URLs for all 14 domains at no extra cost.

Alessandro worked with BetStarters as a consultant, and I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with him throughout his engagement. He led a large-scale cloud migration for us, an effort that touched the core of our infrastructure and required careful coordination across multiple systems and stakeholders. The result spoke for itself: a significantly leaner, more resilient setup that drove a substantial reduction in our cloud costs while improving overall performance. What stood out most was his approach to problem solving. He consistently broke down ambiguous, high-stakes challenges into clear components and delivered well-reasoned, durable solutions, combining deep technical expertise with a sharp eye for cost efficiency and long-term sustainability. He is rigorous, autonomous, and pragmatic, the kind of consultant who not only solves the problem in front of him but also leaves the team stronger and the architecture in better shape. I would gladly work with Alessandro again and recommend him to any organization seeking a highly competent technical consultant.

Alessandro is a smart, skilled programmer, sysadmin and architect. He is very quick mind and a team player. Has an academic approach on the issues, trying to study the best solution and what is the right technology to use. Elegant code writer and positive approach make him a great candidate. His deep know how on blockchain and crypto technology is also a very uncommon feature and explain very well his curiosity for any new technology. There is no need to tell him to study something new, you can be sure he already approached it by himself.

/ Engagement Models

Choose the level of support you need: from a quick cost scan to a full cloud migration.

Cloud Cost Scan

€500flat

A 48-hour review of your last 3 cloud bills (read-only access). You get the top 3 quick wins with estimated savings in euros, plus a 30-minute call to walk through them.

Fully credited toward the Cloud Audit if you upgrade within 30 days. If I can't find savings worth at least the price of the scan, you get a full refund.

Managed FinOps

€1.000/month

Monthly cost & architecture drift review, pre-launch cost checks on new services, reserved capacity and credits management, one strategy call per month, and priority Slack/email access. Billed quarterly — annual plan gets 2 months free.

Your savings, defended: if your bill drifts above baseline and I haven't flagged it first, that month is free.

Cloud Audit

€2.500flat

The right starting point for any serious cloud engagement. I assess costs, risks and architecture gaps, then deliver a prioritized roadmap with actions ranked by impact. Deliverable: 15-20 page report + 60-minute walkthrough call.

Most clients recover the cost of this audit within the first month of implementing the recommendations. Includes 1 month of Managed FinOps.

Cloud Migration

On request

Full migration from legacy or on-premise infrastructure to AWS, Azure or Cloudflare. Includes architecture design, IaC setup (Terraform/Pulumi), CI/CD pipelines, and go-live support.

I also help you apply for cloud credits (AWS Activate, Azure for Startups, Google for Startups) - potentially up to $100K in free resources. Typical engagement: 6-12 weeks. Typical cost reduction: up to 80%. Includes 1 month of post-migration support, extendable.

/ FAQ

Straight answers to the most common questions before we start working together.

What kind of cost reductions can we expect?+

Typical results are up to 80% within the first 3-6 months, through right-sizing, reserved capacity, and architectural changes that remove waste. My best documented case cut a bill by over 90% — but I'd rather promise less and deliver more.

We run everything on a few VPS and already spend very little. What can you offer us?+

A small bill often hides its real cost: single points of failure, untested backups, manual deployments, no recovery plan. If there are no meaningful savings to find, the work focuses on the other well-architected pillars — reliability, security, performance and operational excellence — so an outage doesn't cost you more than years of hosting. And if there's genuinely nothing worth improving, I'll tell you that too.

Why not hire a full-time cloud architect instead?+

A good full-time cloud architect is a six-figure yearly commitment, takes months to hire, and rarely has enough work to fill a full-time role outside a large team. Here you get the same seniority on demand, with no hiring process and no equity — and everything is documented so the knowledge stays with your team.

Do you work with early-stage startups or only scale-ups?+

Both. Early-stage teams usually need architecture foundations and delivery speed, while scale-ups focus on cloud cost optimization, reliability, and team enablement.

Which cloud platforms and stacks do you cover?+

AWS, Azure, Cloudflare, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), with pragmatic multi-cloud decisions based on cost, reliability, and delivery velocity. On-premise and VPS setups are covered too, usually as the starting point of a migration.

What access do you need to our infrastructure?+

As little as possible. A Cloud Cost Scan only requires read-only billing access. Audits and migrations need scoped read access to infrastructure and IaC repositories. Everything is least-privilege, revocable at any time, and covered by an NDA on request.

What guarantees do you offer?+

Every engagement carries its own: the Cloud Cost Scan is fully refunded if I can't find savings worth at least its price; with Managed FinOps, if your bill drifts above baseline and I haven't flagged it first, that month is free; and most clients recover the Cloud Audit cost within the first month of implementing its recommendations.

Do you provide hands-on implementation?+

Yes. Depending on the engagement, I provide strategic leadership, architecture governance, and hands-on work on IaC, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud migrations. I'm not a slide-deck consultant: recommendations come with the option to implement them.

How do you handle cloud migrations? Will we face downtime?+

I start with an assessment mapping risks, costs, dependencies and success criteria, then design the target architecture, roll out in phases with IaC and CI/CD, and execute the cutover with rollback safeguards. Migrations are planned for zero downtime — my last two were completed without a minute of service interruption.

How quickly can an engagement start?+

Most engagements can start immediately. We begin with a short discovery call, align on priorities, and define a practical execution plan.

What happens after the initial engagement?+

Most clients continue with Managed FinOps: a monthly review that keeps costs from drifting back up, checks new services before they get expensive, and manages reserved capacity and credits. Every Audit includes the first month, and every Migration includes 1 month of post-migration support, extendable. Either way, everything I build is documented and handed over to your team — no lock-in, ever.

Can you help us apply for cloud credits?+

Yes. I have experience helping startups apply for AWS Activate, Azure for Startups, and Google for Startups programs, which can provide up to $100K in free cloud resources. I can guide you through the application process and help maximize your chances of approval.
